The incident took place around earlier Wednesday when a Riverside Avenue resident, who was not home, noticed on his video surveillance system a person trying to break into his home, said Stamford Police Lt. Michael A. Noto.
The resident called the police while he was watching the suspect go from the front of the house to the rear of the house. He gave the police an accurate real-time description and play by play as the incident was unfolding up until the suspect tore the cameras off the house, Noto said.
But, just as the suspect was tearing the camera off the house, Stamford Police had arrived, surrounded the residence and took 18-year-old Romniel Guzman of Stamford, into custody, he added.
Guzman was charged with burglary, possession of a dangerous weapon and two counts of criminal mischief.
He is being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20.
"The Stamford Police are thrilled that we were able, with the assistance of the homeowner, to remove a dangerous criminal from the streets.," said Noto. "Once again assistance from the public has enabled us to be more effective at our job."
